Three little kittens...
First of all, a great big THANK YOU to everyone who attended, helped at or supported our Christmas Fair last weekend. We raised a spectacular amount; more than £1,000! This will help to make lots of improvements at the shelter, not to mention paying for medications and food for all those hungry babies! If you couldn’t make it to the event but would still like to help, don’t forget you can click the “Donate” button on the right and make a donation using your credit card or Paypal account.
Talking of babies, here for your enjoyment is some fun at Woodland Nook. Take three kittens and one laser pointer and what do you get? A whole lotta fun!

Cherry needs a home
Shy boy Cherry is still a little nervous, but when his confidence grows, he just loves to play and be stroked. He came to the shelter with his brothers, who have now been rehomed, and his parents, Damson and Jarvis, who are still available for adoption.
Could you give this gorgeous boy a home?

Meet Jarvis Cocker
Meet Jarvis Cocker - he’s the daddy of the three black kittens who arrived a Woodland Nook not so long ago. He wants to live with the common people (showing my age!). Or posh people. Or any people really, as long as they are nice and love beautiful spotty, stripy cats like him.

Albertina - blink and you'd have missed her!
Look who came back to Woodland Nook at the weekend!
Yes, it’s Albertina... but her return was short-lived as she’s such a sweetie that she was soon snapped up and has already been adopted, this time with Twinks.
We hope Albertina and Twinks have a lovely time together in their new home. They’re both such lovely cats.

RIP Pumpkin
A sad week at Woodland Nook as poor old Pumpkin went to kitty heaven. Pumpkin was found a couple of months ago and, due to an expensive medical issue, was due to be put to sleep. But caring cat-lovers felt he deserved a second chance and raised enough to pay the vet’s bill and bring him to Woodland Nook, where he spent his last days in comfort and contentment. Sadly, his condition deteriorated over the past few days, so it was time to say goodbye. Although his time at the shelter was short, we will miss him!

You can now donate food in Ripley
Big thanks to The Pet Shop, Oxford Street, Ripley, which has kindly agreed to take food donations for Woodland Nook. A box of Felix pouches was received before the donations bin was even fully installed – what a result!
So, if you are shopping in Ripley but don’t have time to pop to the shelter, it’s easy to pop into The Pet Shop and drop off something tasty for the cats at Woodland Nook. Thank you!

Black cats - how lucky is that?
Want a lucky black cat? There are lots of these little beauties at Woodland Nook at the moment, after a surprise delivery of what initially appeared to be a mother and four pregnant black kittens.
Further inspection revealed the tabby “mother” to be a male, one of the black “kittens” to be the mother and the remaining three all to be boys! Worming treatment has been administered to reduce those poor little swollen bellies.
Other than that, they seem fine – friendly and playful and ready for homes... apart from one lucky fellow, who has already been rehomed.

Radio star!
Our very own Jane was a radio star today, with a short appearance on Radio Derby putting the case forward for cats versus dogs. You can listen to her on the iPlayer by clicking here. Jane is on about 1hr 30 mins in!
Bit annoying that the presenter seemed to think Woodland Nook was a cattery but hey, any publicity is good publicity!

Pippa - smiling inside
Pippa may look cross but she’s smiling inside, honest. Although she wasn’t too happy the other day when the dustpan and brush fell on her. In fact, that’s probably what she was thinking about when this picture was taken!

Farewell to Eric and Ernie
Today we bid a fond farewell to these two little beauties, Eric and Ernie, as they went off to their forever homes and a new life as Timon and Pumbaa.

Pasca the water monster
Keeping Pasca occupied seems to be a full-time job at the moment. She is such an active kitty! A new favourite seems to be attacking the kitchen roll and spreading it all over the shelter.
One thing guaranteed to keep her quiet is a dripping tap, but you can't leave a tap running all the time, so here she is taking on the much bigger challenge of the fountain.
If you'd like to give Pasca a home, there will never be a dull moment! But remember, she is still a very young cat who will hopefully calm down as she grows up. For more details about adopting Pasca, please use the contact details at the top of the page.

The odd couple
Love knows no boundaries at Woodland Nook but this has to be the oddest couple so far. Tiny, outgoing Twinks has forged a beautiful friendship with big, shy Dennis. Take a look at what we discovered on “Lindee-Lu cam”...
“Busted! And we thought we were safe in here!” |
“Ignore the camera, Twinks, and do that thing that I love.” |
“Yep, that's the one.” |
“There's a bit just above your eye that wants washing, too” |
“That's better.” |
“Now we would like to be left alone, please, it's nap time.” |

Felix - he's a Survivor
Now here’s a cat who needs a theme tune. What do you reckon? The Eye of the Tiger? Can just imagine him making a grand entrance to that intro. And Survivor sums him up as he’s come all the way from Crete to live with Jane, who must have decided that she doesn’t have enough cats!
Felix may look like a big bruiser but he’s a pussycat really. He’s not up for adoption but you will find other lovely cats at Woodland Nook who need homes.

Twinks needs a home
We’re not saying Twinks is highly-strung but, well, just look at her!
Seriously, she’s a lovely cat, just full of the excitement of youth. She needs a home, so if you want a real livewire in your family, Twinks could be the cat for you!

King of the Castle
Our beautiful castle is finished and the undisputed King is Poseidon, who likes to lord it over the other cats from the comfort of the ramparts.
Poseidon and his gorgeous brother, Pan, are now reserved but there are always cats at Woodland Nook who need a home!

Bumble, mid-mouthful
"Do you mind calling back later? I am eating right now."
Bumble does not like to be disturbed when he's eating... especially when you poke the camera through the new castle.
Bumble has a home lined up, but there are plenty more cats at Woodland Nook who need you. Why not pay a visit?

Gentle Pasca
Sometimes a cat just knows when you need someone to give you a hug. Here's Pasca, showing her more gentle side.

Reach for the sky
It was all happening at Woodland Nook this morning. The Greek girls were enjoying the Indian summer and in a VERY feisty mood. Twinks and Pasca were scuffling on the porch roof, when Twinks decided to reach for the sky. The descent was a little more precarious...
Twinks needs a home, so if you want some kitty excitement in your life, just get in touch!

Rustic Rusty......on the lookout for a home
Rustic Rusty.....what eye candy!! This little soul is seeking a home, ideally with another feline. Lucky to be alive, was found by a busy road. Rustic Rusty has been taken away from Mother too early which is sad but this hero has survived the ordeal. Any potential mummies and daddies are welcome to visit.

Poseidon and Pan - desperate for homes!!
Poseidon and Pan are two stunning Cretan brothers that are on the lookout for a loving Forever Home together. These special boys have come from a harsh environment on the island and now need someone to love them. They used to be really shy but since coming to the shelter, have blossomed. Their coats have a wonderful red hue to them which makes them so striking! You can easily tell the brothers apart as Poseidon has deep green coloured eyes and Pan has warm amber eyes.

Welcome to our new blog!
Pasca |
Here's a lovely photo of Pasca, one of our newest residents, all the way from Crete. Her name is Greek for Easter, because she arrived at around that time... not because she hatched out of an egg! Isn't she gorgeous? If you'd like to give Pasca a home, please get in touch.
